Nash Icon is a fairly new label (begun in 2014)--an "imprint" of Big Machine Records. "Imprint" is basically an industry term and it's what happens when a label wants to put all their records that sound one way (or appeal to similar buyers) on one label brand and all their other records that sound another way on another label brand. Personally, I'm not seeing the difference between Big Machine's roster and Nash Icon's roster, but, OK, whatever dudes. I believe Nash Icon is intended to skew older and their roster includes Reba, Rascal Flatts, Ronnie Dunn and Hank Williams Jr. And Nash Icon isn't just a label, but a radio format as well. The format's big push is allegedly featuring new music from classic artists (there being a feeling that classic Country artists couldn't break into the playlist at modern Country stations). From what I hear, the formats of Nash Icon and modern Country stations aren't all that different. Again...whatever.
Nash Icon's first Christmas collection, "A Nash Icon Christmas", is digital only but it is an interesting group of mostly previously released material. Country's not really my thing but I'm familiar with the tracks from The Band Perry, Rascal Flatts, Martina and Steel Magnolia. Some of it, though, was only released digitally which means Nash Icon missed an opportunity to give those songs a physical debut. But at least it isn't a collection completely made up of "the usual suspects" and, for that, I'm happy. Fans of Country music will probably enjoy this selection quite a bit, though they may want to just grab the tunes that aren't already in their holiday library.
