It's been a decade since the last new release from the Brian Setzer Orchestra, though the annual holiday tour has continued in the interim. Of late, Brian has been recording more solo Rockabilly stuff. So, when I saw this one on the release schedule, I was kind of hoping for a solo Rockabilly Christmas album. But Brian is sticking with the Christmas formula that's been working for him for so long--with Big Band Neo-Swing arrangements. Yes, even "Rockabilly Rudolph" sounds like typical BSO material, with only hints of that word in the title. And it is hard to argue with Brian on this. The BSO Christmas stuff is wildly, fantastically popular with a broad swath of the record buying public. And, after a dozen years of the BSO Holiday Extravaganza, some new material is sure to liven up the proceedings.
Hard to believe Brian had yet to record "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" or "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas". But there's little doubt that the early favorite is going to be "Yabba-Dabba Yuletide", which is, indeed, a Christmas take off on the Flintstones Theme.
The album is slated to arrive on October 16 in both CD and vinyl formats. For those who want something a little more....exclusive? There's a limited edition, numbered, Deluxe Box set, which you can only pre-order through Setzer's PledgeMusic page. It includes the CD (obviously) and a download on the date of release, but also includes:

Obviously, that's not a lot considering that the vinyl test pressings, which were $150 are already sold out. The Box Set, by the way, will ship "no later than" Black Friday (November 27). Presumably, you'll have to be satisfied with the digital version until then.
