It was twenty years ago that Lisa Loeb took the world by storm when "Stay (I Miss You)" was included in the soundtrack of the film "Reality Bites". She was the first artist ever to have a number one single without having a recording contract. That kind of independence is very cool. Plus she's got that whole "sexy nerd" thing going on. She's continued to record, even while raising a family, but nothing she's done has approached the success of "Stay". In a way, that's kind of cool, too; you can listen to Lisa's music without feeling like you're jumping on a bandwagon or following the crowd. And she seems happy, which is the important thing.
"Light" is part of a new approach Lisa is taking to the music world. While she hasn't said she won't do another album, she has decided that, with all of the media options available and with the very full plate she already has, she's opting for smaller bites. Putting out one or two songs at a time seems very appealing to her right now.
You can purchase "Light" from Amazon MP3 or wherever fine downloads are sold.
Ordinarily, I like to start this Hanukkah countdowns with a video, but Lisa hasn't yet done one for "Light" (that I can find). Earlier this year, we introduced you to Isabel Rose and her Jazzy version of "Hanukkah Oh Hanukkah". Well, a fan (Nina Berns) has produced a video for the song featuring lots and lots of CATS (wearing yarmulkes). Enjoy!
