Guiville is from the UK and still figuring out which voice suits him best. And you gotta respect a guy who says right in his profile, "I have no idea what I'm doing". "F@#k You It's Christmas" has an old school Indie feel to it. And it's the tale of a romance that didn't last. To tell you the truth, given the subject matter and duet vocals, this song is a bit like "Fairytale of New York" in its way. In fact, think of it as a prequel. Maybe this is what that couple sounded like on their first Christmas together and then, in the Pogues vision, they stuck together until they absolutely hated each other. In this one, they met in the summer, moved in together, argued at Christmas about something (I'm assuming much the same kinds of things that all couples doomed to failure argue about), and split.
Some of the lyrics in this are biting, though delivered in a Poppish way with a British accent and twinkly bells and other sounds of the season sweetening up the venom.
"It was a laugh at the start
Now I can't even smile"
"It's such a shame how things have unraveled but
The truth is I don't want you near
When we first met you were the sun and the sea to me
Just proves how wrong I can be"
Ah, we've all been there. Right? Right?
The free download on this one is a bit weird. It's at the Artist Union and they're going to require that you have an account (presumably free) with them or Soundcloud (or possibly Facebook). Your call. But I liked it.
