Searching for something completely different led me to this song from last year by Wendy Jans. Raised in Iowa, Wendy is currently living and working in Nashville. In 2009, she was especially looking forward to going home to Iowa to be with her family and friends for the holidays. But severe winter storms left Wendy grounded in Nashville and inspired this song, "Don't Let It Snow". Makes me tear up just thinking about it (I admit it; I'm a dishrag). Download it free at ReverbNation.
Wendy Jans has released two albums to date, her 2007 debut "Today" (including the hit-worthy tracks "Fool" and "Invincible") and the 2009 sophomore effort "Simple As A Song". Hmm. By my watch, she's about due for a new record. Jans describes her sound as soulful pop, sort of in the vein of Colbie Caillat, and her voice has drawn comparisons to Norah Jones, but "Don't Let It Snow", IMHO, is pure Nashville--Country at its finest. Don't know 'bout you, but I can easily hear one of Country music's reigning divas taking a turn at this song--Faith Hill, Reba McEntire, heck, even Jennifer Nettles of Sugarland--just probably not as well as Wendy sings it.
Take it from your dishrag friend. This is a free download well worth your time and effort. Go get "Don't Let It Snow" by Wendy Jans free at ReverbNation. And bookmark the video while you're at it; that's a winner, too.
