Poly Styrene (Marianne Joan Elliott-Said), singer for the seminal Punk Rock band X-Ray Spex, is back on the scene. In advance of her upcoming album, "Generation Indigo" (due in March 2011) the performer is offering up a new Christmas single as a FREE download via Reverb Nation and her own web site. "Black Christmas" is really an anti-Christmas song, based upon the story of a Los Angeles man who went on a killing spree while dressed as Santa Claus. In spite of its gruesome inspiration, "Black Christmas" features a pleasant reggae dub groove. Poly wrote the song with the help of her daughter who also performs on the record. "Black Christmas" will not be included on "Generation Indigo", Poly Styrene's first album since 2004's "Flower Aeroplane". Now in her 50s, Styrene has stated that there are no current plans for a tour, citing health reasons. X-Ray Spex was one of the first London-based punk bands and their 1977 album "Germ Free Adolescents" is considered a classic of the genre. As for Christmas music, Poly previously joined in on the 2008 Damaged Goods single from Goldblade, "City of Christmas Ghosts".
