I LOVETT THE HOLIDAYS 11/21/2011
Ever since I first heard "If I Were The Man You Wanted", I've been something of a Lyle Lovett fan. His later quirky songs and quirky appearances in films and on TV just made him all the more endearing to me. That he was married to Julia Roberts for a time, well, how can you not respect that? So I was thrilled to open my mail this afternoon and find the news of a new holiday EP from Lovett via Lost Highway Records. It'd be nicer still to have this on vinyl, but I'll take what I can get. Lovett shares his single with Kat Edmonson, an exciting young singer and perfect foil for Lovett, who has been opening shows for him across America. In every city, fans and critics would report that nothing wowed them so much as Lyle and Kat's duet on "Baby It's Cold Outside". Now everyone can hear that remarkable pairing. Kat also harmonizes with Lyle on "Christmastime Is Here". The set closes with Lyle going it solo for "The Girl With The Holiday Smile", a typical Alt Country genre bending Lyle Lovett original. None of these tracks has the tremendous depth of Lyle's "Christmas Morning" (from 1996's "Road To Ensenada"), but then few songs do. "Baby It's Cold Outside" and "The Girl With The Holiday Smile" will appear on a new full length album Lyle will be releasing in 2012 (maybe that will be on vinyl). In the meantime, you can grab these 3 holiday songs from Amazon MP3 and iTunes. Comments Your comment will be posted after it is approved. Leave a Reply |
